Recoba wants striker role
31-10-2002:
Alvaro Recoba says that the 4-3-3 system used by Inter against
Rosenborg allows him to perform at his best.
The Uruguayan has been used as a left midfielder and a trequartista
by Hector Cuper in the past, but has urged the tactician to
use him more regularly as a third striker.
"I'm happy with how I played," said the international - who
opened the scoring in the 3-0 win over the Norwegians.
"I am given that role for my national team and it helps me to
become much more dangerous in front of goal."
Recoba hasn't featured that regularly of late because of fitness
problems, but he maintains that he will soon be firing on all
cylinders. "I'm not totally fit but for the time being I am
satisfied with what I am doing for the team."
The Nerazzurri need a point from their trip to Amsterdam in
two weeks time to ensure Champions' League qualification. And
Recoba maintains that Ajax should be afraid of the Italian outfit.
"We have no fear in playing anyone but our opponents will be
cautious because they are already worried about stopping Christian
Vieri and Hernan Crespo," he added.
"If we can get our game together then there is no end to what
we can achieve. We are improving all of the time even if patience
is still needed."
