Recoba concluding on 2002
27-12-2002:
Alvaro Recoba , who scored the Nerazzurri's last goal of 2002, is
at the beach for a few days of relaxation before resuming training
at Pinetina. The Uruguayan gave an analysis of 2002 in an interview
with Inter.it.
How are you spending these holidays?
Relaxation with my family. A bit of sea, sun and heat in order to
be ready for the second half of this season.
What are your thoughts about 2002?
I think it was a nice year, 5 May excluded. Everything went very
well, but unfortunately that day ruined the good things constructed
with a very positive season. Excluding 5 May, it was in any case
a year as protagonists for Inter...
I think 5 May made us even stronger. We recovered immediately and
we're at the top again. I must admit that almost no-one believed
we would have recuperated. But we've been capable of recuperating,
recovering and we're doing even better than last season, having
registered excellent results in the championship, but also in the
Champions League where you encounter the strongest teams in Europe.
What are you asking for in 2003?
I'm only asking to win. For my family I'm asking for health and
serenity, but I want to remember 2003 for having won something in
an Inter shirt.
The championship or the Champions League?
I can't choose, because I would like to win both competitions.
Do you think it's easier to win the Champions League or the Scudetto?
I don't know, they are two very difficult competitions to win. The
difference is that in the Champions League you play against the
strongest sides in Europe. You know it and you go onto the pitch
with the determination that the stadium atmosphere also asks of
you... the music, the climate. you know they are different matches.
In the championship you never have a moment of respite. You can
make mistakes in a few more matches, but you can even lose against
the bottom of the table side. If you don't go onto the pitch with
the maximum amount of concentration and determination you suffer
and you can come off the pitch empty-handed. We'll see at the end
if the championship or the Champions League is easier, but perhaps
I'd say the Champions, only because it lasts for fewer matches.
