Duo in Recoba chase

Sampdoria and Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Alvaro Recoba from Internazionale.

The Uruguayan is only considered as fourth choice striker in Milan and a January exit may be on the cards.

Recoba, despite being a massive favourite of chief Massimo Moratti, has started just two games so far this term.

Boss Roberto Mancini seems to prefer Christian Vieri, Adriano and Obafemi Martins, which suggests Recoba may be sacrificed.

Sampdoria are being strongly linked given that boss Walter Novellino knows the player very well.

The attacker excelled in Italy under the tactician during a six-month loan deal at Venezia in 1999, when he netted 10 goals in 19 League matches.

But Doria face competition from Atletico who are understood to have already contacted the 28-year-old’s agents.

However, any move would only occur if the South American slashes his reported salary of around £3.5m a season.
