| Recoba to silence critics 2
15-07-2003
Alvaro Recoba claims that he will use the new season to finally
prove his worth to Italian giants Inter.
"This club is my life and I have no intention of leaving
here as a loser," the Uruguayan told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "I
want to win back the fans in the new campaign."
The Italian giants confirmed last month that Recoba would remain
at the club despite another disappointing season at the San Siro.
His inconsistent performances did lead to claims that President
Massimo Moratti would consider selling him.
Especially after his performance in the Champions’ League
semi-final against city cousins Milan.
"I really wasn’t in great shape for those two games," added
Recoba. "I asked my body to do things but got no answers.
In hindsight I should have asked to not start the game."
But Recoba is so committed to the Inter cause that he has agreed
to take a substantial pay-cut.
"It was something that I needed to do for Massimo Moratti
because he has done so much for me," added the striker.
"I’d already spoken to him about it before I went on
holiday. I told him I would play for nothing and would even leave
if that was what he wanted."
Moratti replied by stating that the South American was unavailable
for transfer despite interest from Spain and England.

Recoba to pen deal
12 -07-2003
Uruguayan international striker Alvaro Recoba will put pen-to-paper
on his new Internazionale contract upon returning from holiday.
The South American agreed a deal with the Giuseppe Meazza side
on Friday and will sign on Monday.
The deal, which includes a 30 percent reduction in salary, will
keep Recoba tied to Inter until 2008.
While the skilful forward had been linked with a move away from
the Serie A side, he always maintained his intention to remain
with the Nerazzurri.
Inter official Marco Branca revealed the classy forward was never
on the transfer market, despite the speculation regarding his future.
"Recoba has never been put on the market. With regards to
the signing, he's always respected the club's policy," said
Branca.
