Empoli-Inter post-match comments
07-11-2002:
Alvaro Recoba: "I think we won on a difficult pitch - that's the
only thing that counts, so it's good to continue like this. It's
better for everyone if I manage to score, but the important thing
is to play and that the team wins. Four goals away from home are
important. Empoli never give up, compliments to them, but we were
superior and we won. Our opponents don't give up, but there's
still a long way to go until the end of the championship. It's
not easy to score four goals away from home, so it's good like
this."
"I don't know if my best goal was this one, even though the one
last Sunday [against Como ] wasn't bad. The important thing is
to score and win. I adapt to playing behind two strikers and with
one of them. It doesn't matter if I play as a second striker,
the important thing is to play and do well. We mustn't depend
on Vieri . There are three strikers, there's space and rest for
all. It also went well in Piacenza without Vieri. All of us must
always be ready to play. I didn't know Morfeo before, I've discovered
a great player who's complete, has the strength to run a lot and
plays very well. There will be matches for one, two and three
strikers, the important thing is to play."

Against Empoli El Chino scored a second goal but referee Pellegrino
disallowed the goal on a doubtful offside. Recoba after the match
exchanged a few comments with referee Pellegrino: "But how, finally
I scored double, how can you disallow it?" said Recoba. Pellegrino
responded: "I am sorry, but the linesman raised his flag and I
had no choice but to call it back". Recoba exiting from the changing-
room commented on the referee decision: "I believe that the referee
knew about the situation but he did not react. What is important
is that we are going home with three points, there is time for
scoring double. I will keep the second goal for another match".
Massimo Moratti was full of praise for Alvaro Recoba , whose explosive
start to the season continued with a wonderful goal against Empoli
on Wednesday.
"Recoba impresses me, but he doesn't amaze me. He has always been
capable of the most unexpected things that a world class player
does," said the Inter number one.
"He has always scored goals from incredible distances, making
all the fans go crazy with joy. Yesterday he created his own work
of art, shooting from 30 metres and hitting the target. Unassailable."
