Recoba's press conference
after returning from holidays.
07-07-2002:
At the press conference, Alvaro Recoba spoke to journalists about
the transfer market and the rumours of a presumed transfer from Inter
to another club.
"I just don't understand where these rumours come from,"
said Uruguayan international Recoba . "Because I spoke with
president Moratti, with Lele Oriali and with the coach, and none of
them said I would be sold. In fact, they said the opposite. That means
they have confidence in me and they want me to be part of the new
Inter, the side that will look to win the scudetto. Therefore, there's
no transfer to Atletico Madrid. It's not true. Just like I have never
heard talk of a swap with Ronaldinho and Paris Saint Germain. The
Brazilian really is world class and if he did come to Inter
one of the strikers in the squad would have to go."
How much will the World Cup influence Inter's season?
The World Cup won't have any influence because we
are a young team. It went very well for Ronaldo , while it went less
well for others, but when we are all back at Inter no-one will think
about the World Cup anymore. We will all concentrate on Inter only.
In which position would you like to play next season,
on the wing or as a striker?
It would be great to play with three strikers, but these
are decisions that the coach makes. I'm ready to play everywhere,
what counts for me is just to play. Is there
a lot of competition ahead?
It's a very long season with a lot of matches. There
will be room for everyone.
What do you think about the probable arrival of Alessandro Nesta at
Inter?
Until he's here with us he's still an opponent. He's
very strong and is a world class player that every team would like
to have. We're already strong in defence with Cordoba, Materazzi and
Sorondo, but Nesta would be a great buy. Let's hope he arrives.
