| They said i couldn't play on
the wing
04-02-2003:
Here's the text of an interview given by Nerazzurri
striker Alvaro Recoba to Italian television network Mediaset:
Are you satisfied with the president's compliments
about your current form?
Satisfied? Yes, of course. I just do my duty. They said I couldn't
play on the wing and I feel I have proved the opposite. I just want
to play and the coach will decide in which position.
Moratti said Giggs wasn't required because
the Nerazzurri have Recoba for that position...
A lot of names are always linked to Inter. A new name is mentioned
every day, so you just have to get used to it.
You said that after six years at Inter you
were still considered the baby of the group. Is this still the case?
I don't think so. I've tried to win my place in the team without
showing disrespect for anyone. I've worked hard in order to play
and it's good that I'm spoken about when I'm not in the team. In
previous years I didn't play and no-one said anything. They only
noticed when I came onto the pitch.
What can Batistuta 's arrival give to this
Inter side?
In the meantime he's substituting Crespo , who is a very important
player for us. You'll see that he'll be a great help to us in winning
something important.
Does Batistuta 's arrival take anything away
from you?
I don't think so. It was already known he can't play in the cup.
He'll play more in the championship.
Crespo is bending over backwards to make a
quick recovery...
Yes, it's true. He's already running during training. Let's hope
he recovers quickly because we need players like him.
Cuper has said he might even play with four
strikers. Do you believe this?
No, it's like this. Each coach has his own way of playing. He uses
the 4-4-2 and we'll have to adapt ourselves to playing in that way.
Can you predict who will finish first, second
and third in the Serie A this season?
No. I just want the Scudetto, though it would be great if we also
win the cup. After what happened last year there's little to say.
We just have to play, respect and honour the shirt by trying to
win at all costs.
