| Palermo snub Recoba idea
Friday 3 December, 2004
Palermo chief Maurizio Zamparini has ruled out a January swoop for Inter enigma Alvaro Recoba.
"We’re not even talking about it," said the Sicilian President. "Recoba is a player who is simply too expensive for us.
"It is true that I signed him when I was in charge at Venezia but these stories are simply fantasies.
"If he accepted the salary that he was on at that time then we can talk but I think he earns significantly more now at Inter."
Recoba, who enjoyed a six-month loan stint at Venezia in 1999, is believed to be assessing his future.
The Uruguayan isn’t a regular feature under boss Roberto Mancini and his agent has hinted that he could consider a move.
"Recoba will continue to give his best for Inter because they are a club he loves," said Delgado.
"We will evaluate his future at the appropriate time which will be in the next few weeks. Palermo? They are a club we could be interested in."
However, it seems that Recoba will remain at the San Siro until the end of the season at the very least.
That is because Julio Cruz is the only striker who is likely to be sacrificed in the New Year transfer window.
